Sr. Synthetic Fuel Lab Scientist (1415)
OVERVIEW:
Aramco Americas is building a new state-of-the-art research center in Houston that will focus on CO2 capture, carbon materials, hydrogen, low carbon-impact liquid fuels, renewables & storage and artificial intelligence in energy. The center will take low TRL research results and develop them to TRL 5-7.
SCOPE:
Aramco Americas is seeking senior synthetic liquid fuels and CO2 conversion specialists to lead interdisciplinary research initiatives focused on advancing low-carbon and/or e-fuel production. Key responsibilities include: Designing and executing experiments to explore novel methods for integrating renewables feedstocks with conventional hydrocarbons in refining processes; Developing innovative pathways for e-fuels production; Engineering and optimizing processes for integration into Aramco’s global operation and affiliate networks. The position involves scientific, developmental, and engineering tasks, and hands-on work on pilot and demonstration systems. The ideal candidate should have a combination of strong technical background and project management expertise.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Propose and develop novel pathways to produce low-carbon fuels by valorizing low value streams, co-feeding of renewable resources or e-fuels production.
- Lead projects and project team to pilot and demonstrate low-carbon fuel technologies.
- Conduct periodic gate review meetings which involves aligning with proponents and Aramco/affiliates engineering.
- Formulate objectives, technical scope and requirements for technology demonstration
- Determine the development steps, deliverables, and milestones.
- Estimate the development schedule, resources, and costs.
- Conduct pre-FEED (DBSP) level engineering studies.
- Detailed engineering, construction, start up, and operation of demonstration systems.
- Oversee testing and analyze testing results
- Write technical reports of investigations and publications, reviews existing patents.
- Mentor junior staff
- Undertakes original investigations relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature.
- Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment. Follow all company safety rules in performing job duties.
- Lead collaborative research efforts internally (other R&D areas of the company) and externally (academic researchers).
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- PhD Degree in Science/Engineering Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned jobs.
- Nine (9) year’s industry experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the job’s assignment.
- Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined.
- Candidate should be comfortable in working independently or part of a project team, and frequent project presentation. Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
BUSINESS CONTACTS:
- Contacts as appropriate to his/her needs, all levels within Saudi Aramco and its subsidiaries and operating departments in discussions relating to specific technical problems. In civil engineering applications, the incumbent has daily contacts with both Company engineering principals and with contractor engineers.
- Interact with industry and academia through society activities, Joint Industry Projects, partnerships, and consortia.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL ACTIVITY:
- Operates standard office equipment, including but not limited to personal computers, calculators, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, etc.
- Reads and comprehends published, handwritten, and typewritten materials, company forms, and computer printouts.
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database functions in the Windows environment.
- Travels to meetings, seminars, and to vendor offices in Dhahran, Houston, and throughout North America
- The job requires the typical physical demands of a research center environment and is based in Houston-TX. The facilities will be ventilated and air-conditioned, well-lighted laboratory/office buildings that meets building, occupational health & safety and facility access codes.
