Scheduling/Chartering Specialist (1688)
OVERVIEW:
Performs a variety of functions related to ensuring that crude oil is efficiently and economically scheduled and transported from Saudi Arabia to Saudi Aramco's customers in Europe and North America. Responsible, under the general direction of Manager - Operations, for performing various forecasting, scheduling or chartering and marine related functions to ensure that Saudi crude oil is expeditiously transported to customers. Saudi Petroleum's current responsibility is for the transportation of approximately 1,255 MBD. Of this amount, 600 MBD is delivered to the Motiva Joint Venture through SRI. The remaining 625 MBD is delivered to twelve third-party customers handled through term contracts based in Europe and North America. These figures represent the level of deliveries with the current quota in effect. Without a quota, overall deliveries could increase to approximately 2,000 MBD.
Consequently, transportation and chartering activity would be progressively increased. At current production levels, 12-15 VLCC's per month and 15-20 feeder vessels per month are required to meet overall transportation requirements. This requirement may be met through owned vessels or by chartering, either on a time or voyage basis. In addition, arrangements may also be required for trans-shipment, lighterage, tugboats, bunkers and agent services at the receiving point.
Incumbents of this position tend to specialize either progressing as cargo scheduling specialists or alternatively as chartering and marine specialists. The division between the two specialties is not always clear-cut, and in practice, several activities overlap between the two. The incumbent will handle most regular job duties with a good degree of independence within established policy. Guidance and direction, however, is always available from higher classified Scheduling/Chartering Specialists or the Manager - Operations. Incumbents at this level perform the routine assignments and will occasionally tackle the breadth of activities that would be performed by higher-level employees.
