HR Staff Specialist (Labor Relations Specialist) (393860)

Basic Function

The Labor Relations Specialist is responsible for developing the company’s employee relations program strategy, policies and processes in addition to managing its operational activities in order to mitigate company HR risks in the employees’ matters business areas while improving employee satisfactions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Administer employee relations activities according to established polices, administrative guidelines and best practices while ensuring compliance with all federal and state employment and labor laws and regulations (e.g. FLSA, ADA, ADEA, Title II, The Equal Pay Act, FMLA, etc.)
  • Conduct prompt and thorough internal investigations into employee allegations of a wide range of employment issues such as harassment, discrimination, retaliation, unethical conduct, violations to company policies, etc.
  • Resolve disputes, complaints and employee grievances while remaining unbiased when evaluating and making recommendations to Management
  • Provide advice, counsel and resolution to management regarding personnel practices to avoid or minimize the risk of labor disputes; practices include but not limited to: general HR issues, policy interpretation, employee conflict, working conditions, performance management, wrongful termination, compensation matters, etc.
  • Develop and conduct training and/or presentations for Supervisors and Managers on various personnel practices and employee relations issues
  • Prepare comprehensive reports for Management, identifying and reporting trends and highlighting potential risks to the Company
  • Assist in developing and administering procedures, policies and practices as they relate to labor relations issues

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Labor Relations, or other closely related academic field of study required; a certification in Human Resources is preferred
  • Twelve (12) years of comprehensive experience in the human resources field with a focus on labor and employee relations required, a strong background in handling employment litigation issues is highly preferred
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of employment laws and regulations as well as common HR practices along with the ability to interpret, communicate and apply that knowledge to company personnel practices
  • Excellent research skills and be able to plan, conduct, and organize investigations and prepare well written reports
  • Must be able to use discretion in handling confidential information, make sound decisions and exercise good judgement
  • Must be able to effectively handle complex or sensitive situations with professionalism, tact, and diplomacy in all labor relations matters
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
