Engine Controls Engineer (384011)

Our Detroit Research Center conducts engine-focused research and develops next-generation liquid fuels for current and future global transportation needs. Located in Detroit’s Novi suburb, the center is near the nation’s leading automotive manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers that help shape the future of the transportation industry.

Basic Function:

Develop and implement innovative engine and vehicle control solutions for research engines and vehicles within an experimental environment.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Hardware selection and software development and implementation for engine and vehicle control systems
  • Develop software required to demonstrate light-duty and heavy-duty engine and vehicle technologies
  • Integrate instrumentation and control systems to perform specialized test procedures and technology assessments
  • Assist both engineers and technicians with the assessment of novel engine and vehicle technologies
  • Process test data and create detailed reports
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of engine and vehicle controls
  • Provide and manage a safe, accident-free laboratory environment
  • Follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in automotive, electrical, mechanical, or computer engineering
  • Nine (9) years applicable experience, such that the incumbent is clearly recognized as an expert in the field, will consider seven (7) years experience
  • Must have demonstrated experience with developing and implementing novel engine control solutions
  • Must have good experience with state-of-the-art control solutions, including approaches uses for bypass controls
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Ability to work on a team and independently as needed
  • Ability to process test data and create reports
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose software and hardware communication issues
  • Must have hands-on-testing experience of engines in a dynamometer lab
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
