Passenger Transport Research Team Lead (384005)

Our Detroit Research Center conducts engine-focused research and develops next-generation liquid fuels for current and future global transportation needs. Located in Detroit’s Novi suburb, the center is near the nation’s leading automotive manufacturers and original equipment manufacturers that help shape the future of the transportation industry.

Basic Function

The Sr. Lab Scientist will innovate, develop, and demonstrate fuel and engine technologies within a multi-disciplinary team environment. Responsibilities also include leading and managing global research projects, building external supplier relationships and engaging with key automotive collaborators, and contributing strategically to achieve research and technology objectives.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage fuels and engine research projects to achieve research and technology objectives
  • Lead global technology programs pertaining to light-duty transportation
  • Generate internal and external technical presentations and patents
  • Keep current with significant developments in the field of engine and fuel technologies
  • Attend relevant conferences and technical forums
  • Generate comprehensive professional reports of investigations and deliver industry-leading presentations
  • Lead collaborative research with other R&D areas of the company, e.g., analytical chemistry, process engineering, applications, etc. for increased intellectual property opportunities and future business advancement of ASC or Saudi Aramco
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience

  • B.S. Degree in Science, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned job is required; PhD is highly preferred.
  • Nine (9) year’s experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the jobs assignment, will consider seven (7) years of experience
  • Experience in powertrain technology innovation, management, and development in an automotive or related field strongly desired
  • Must have demonstrated experience with developing and implementing novel powertrain technologies
  • Excellent teamwork and leadership skills are required
  • Hands-on-testing experience of engines in a dynamometer or vehicle lab highly preferred
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
