Lab Technician (870-3414)

Basic Function

The position participates in a variety of analytical laboratory support activities for a specific testing or research program for Aramco Performance Materials (APM). Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform basic laboratory analyses using sophisticated and advanced laboratory equipment and instrumentation where necessary
  • Perform sampling tasks which may require several steps and extra safety precautions, and may need onsite analytical work performed
  • Conduct simple, routine analytical and sampling tasks as required by Supervisor
  • Operate, adjust, and maintain scientific instruments
  • Assure the work quantity and quality by requiring strict adherence to methods and procedures
  • Conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols and collect field and/or laboratory measurements and data
  • Compute results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments
  • Uses laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data; provide routine interpretations of analyses
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
  • Maintain and organize laboratory supplies; monitor inventory levels and order or secure supplies as needed
  • Conduct library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments
  • Perform general laboratory maintenance to ensure that the laboratory is in full compliance with all safety, environmental and health regulations and procedures
  • Participate in all Lab Specific Activities including EHS, following all company safety rules, taking action on hazards and reporting these items to the supervisor
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required; two (2) years college or an Associate Degree in related-science major preferred
  • Three (3) years industrial research lab experience required
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills and proficient technical writing skills
  • Must have the ability to make professionally effective presentations, both oral and written
  • Must have basic knowledge of standard laboratory practices, terminology and equipment as well as basic knowledge of laboratory tests and analyses
  • Must have the knowledge and ability to handle samples and laboratory equipment
  • Must have the ability to make mathematical computations
  • Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance Procedures and the ability to handle samples and laboratory equipment
  • Must have a valid driver license and a three (3) year clean driving record if required by the position
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
