Lab Technician (870-3417)

Located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lake region, our Ithaca Research and Development center is the product development and new technology hub for Aramco Performance Materials. The center focuses on developing innovative new materials and chemistries to support the company’s product development and technology strategies.

Basic Function

The successful candidate participates in a variety of research project support activities for Aramco Performance Materials (APM). Under the direction of a team leader, the Laboratory Technician will design experiments, carry out reactions, synthesize precursors, purify and isolate products and carry out analyses using modern chemistry methods. Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, materials and equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform relatively complex organic chemistry reactions using standard equipment
  • Design and execute experiments and analyze results using statistical analysis software
  • Demonstrate task performance in the training of junior staff as directed by supervisor
  • Direct basic work such as simple analytical and sampling tasks as required by supervisor
  • Operate, adjust, and maintain laboratory equipment, reactors and instruments
  • Assure the work quantity and quality by requiring strict adherence to methods and procedures
  • Conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols
  • Collect and analyze laboratory measurements and data for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments
  • Use laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data and provide routine interpretations of analyses
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
  • Conduct library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments
  • Participate in all Lab Specific Activities including EHS, following all company safety rules, taking action on hazards and reporting these items to the supervisor
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years college or an Associate Degree in related-science major required; Bachelor’s degree in physical science, engineering or a related field preferred
  • Seven (7) years industrial research lab experience required
  • Experience with Design of Experiments is preferred
  • Must have complete familiarity of standard laboratory practices, terminology and equipment as well as knowledge of laboratory tests and analyses
  • Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance Procedures and the ability to handle samples and laboratory equipment
  • Must have the ability to make mathematical computations
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined, have good interpersonal and communication skills and proficient technical writing skills
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
