Lab Technician (870-3413)

Basic Function

The position participates in a variety of complex analytical laboratory support activities for a specific testing or research program for Aramco Performance Materials (APM). Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform relatively complex laboratory analyses and use sophisticated and advanced equipment and instrumentation where necessary
  • Perform relatively complex sampling tasks which may require several steps and extra safety precautions, and may need onsite analytical work performed
  • Demonstrate task performance in the training of junior staff as directed by supervisor
  • Direct basic work such as simple analytical and sampling tasks as required by supervisor
  • Operate, adjust, and maintain scientific instruments
  • Coordinate the work of other Laboratory Technicians by scheduling assignments and overseeing work
  • Assure the work quantity and quality by requiring strict adherence to methods and procedures
  • Conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols; collect field and/or laboratory measurements and data and compute results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments
  • Use laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data and provide routine interpretations of analyses
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
  • Maintain and organize laboratory supplies; monitor inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed
  • Conduct library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments
  • Participate in all Lab Specific Activities including EHS, following all company safety rules, taking action on hazards and reporting these items to the supervisor
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent required; two (2) years college or an Associate Degree in related-science major preferred
  • Seven (7) years industrial research lab experience required
  • Must have complete familiarity of standard laboratory practices, terminology and equipment as well as knowledge of laboratory tests and analyses
  • Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance Procedures and the ability to handle samples and laboratory equipment
  • Must have the ability to make mathematical computations
  • Must have a valid driver license and a three (3) year clean driving record if required by the position
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined, have good interpersonal and communication skills and proficient technical writing skills
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
