Lab Technician (870-3411)

Basic Function

The position participates in a variety of complex analytical laboratory support activities for a specific testing or research program for Aramco Performance Materials (APM). Work is performed through the application of a body of knowledge related to standard laboratory methods, practices, procedures, policies, regulations, and laboratory materials and equipment.

Some knowledge in the area listed is required at the entry level, developing knowledge is required at the intermediate level, considerable knowledge is required at the experienced level, thorough knowledge is required at the advanced level, and extensive knowledge is required at the specialist level.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform relatively complex laboratory analyses; use sophisticated and advanced equipment and instrumentation where necessary
  • Perform complex sampling tasks which may require several steps and extra safety precautions, and may need onsite analytical work performed
  • Demonstrate task performance in the training of junior staff as directed by supervisor
  • Direct basic work such as simple analytical and sampling tasks as required by supervisor
  • Operate, adjust, and maintain scientific instruments
  • Coordinate the work of other Laboratory Technicians by scheduling assignments and overseeing the work and assure the work quantity and quality by requiring strict adherence to methods and procedures
  • Conduct research experiments in accordance with laboratory and safety protocols; collect field and/or laboratory measurements and data; compute results for a variety of research procedures, tests and techniques
  • Maintain accurate records of procedures used to conduct experiments
  • Uses laboratory/computer equipment to conduct analyses of experiment data and provide routine interpretations of analyses
  • Handle and dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols
  • Maintain and organize laboratory supplies; monitor inventory levels and orders or secures supplies as needed
  • Conduct library research to assist in the planning and design of experiments
  • Participate in all Lab Specific Activities including EHS, following all company safety rules, taking action on hazards and reporting these items to the supervisor
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent; two (2) years college or an Associate Degree in related-science major
  • Seven (7) years industrial research lab experience
  • Hands-on experience with laboratory scale high pressure chemical batch reactors and continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR) desirable
  • Must have complete familiarity of standard laboratory practices, terminology and equipment as well as knowledge of laboratory tests and analyses
  • Must have knowledge of Quality Assurance Procedures and the ability to handle samples and laboratory equipment
  • Must have the ability to make mathematical computations
  • Must have a valid driver license and a three (3) year clean driving record if required by the position
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient technical writing skills
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
