Lab Scientist (870-3401)

Located in the heart of New York’s Finger Lake region, our Ithaca Research and Development center is the product development and new technology hub for Aramco Performance Materials. The center focuses on developing innovative new materials and chemistries to support the company’s product development and technology strategies.

Basic Function

This position provides professional advice and assistance in the resolution of substantial laboratory-related technical problems in the areas of chemistry, polymer science, catalysis or other applied industrial sciences associated with new technology development initiatives at Aramco Performance Materials (APM).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide professional advice and assistance in chemistry, chemical science, polymer science, or catalysis for research initiatives at company facilities
  • Plan and execute laboratory research relating to technical problems outside the scope of available literature
  • Maintain current knowledge of significant developments in the field of specialization and use this knowledge to further APM research initiatives
  • Document and present research results in the form of comprehensive professional Technical Reports;
  • Work closely with APM’s Intellectual Property group assist in the protection inventions arising from research initiatives
  • Maintain and update working knowledge of applicable state-of-the-art laboratory instrumentation
  • Interact with customers/industry to understand product/process requirements and provide necessary support
  • Transfer product formulations, process, and specifications to manufacturing team and provide support as needed
  • Lead collaborative research with other R&D areas of the company, e.g., analytical chemistry, process engineering, applications, etc. for increased intellectual property opportunities and future business advancement of APM or Saudi Aramco
  • Publish in relevant journals and present at conferences
  • Participate in all Lab Specific Activities including EHS
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a safe, accident-free laboratory environment and follow all company safety rules in performing job duties
  • Serve as a technical leader and participate in major new technology research projects as assigned
  • Perform other miscellaneous related duties as requested

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering/Physics/Mathematics Discipline as appropriate for the area of expertise for the assigned job; Bachelors degree in Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry strongly desired; Advanced degree in organic chemistry or a closely allied discipline also strongly preferred.
  • Seven (7) years’ experience in a substantive industrial, technological or laboratory area relevant to the job assignment
  • Must have the ability to work independently or as part of a project team
  • Must possess good presentation skills and be comfortable speaking in a public setting
  • Must have the ability and a proven track record in completion of development projects with aggressive timelines and varying degrees of complexity
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
