Technology Planning Analyst (349761)

Our Houston Research Center focuses on research and innovation in geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, production technology, drilling, and sensors development to advance the discovery and recovery of oil and gas. Basic Function

Provide project and portfolio management tracking and analysis for Research and Development.  This includes managing stage gate process, providing day-to-day researcher support for the use of portfolio management software (Planisware), assisting in evaluating and calculating business cases for ongoing projects, and producing weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of support to research teams and research team leaders in the job of recording, tracking, and analyzing research and development portfolios, programs, and projects using Planisware (PPM platform)
  • Perform tasks in Planisware including the following:
    • Create profiles, templates, and libraries
    • Create and modify portfolios, programs, and projects
    • Create and modify user attributes, attribute settings, and data management rules
    • Maintain and modify common data, including calendars, breakdown structures, cost units, skills, and named and general resources
    • Create customizable reports and workflows, activities and activity types, styles and filters
    • Create and modify dashboards
    • Export data and reports
    • Interface with Planisware or Third Party consultants in implementing service patch and version upgrades of the Planisware platform
  • Coordinate the preparation of routine and special reports for department management review and approval
  • Provide and record portfolio, program and project performance data with particular emphasis on trends
  • Conduct periodic audits or operational reviews compiling and reporting statistics
  • Work with corporate groups in maintaining overall business systems to assist department or division heads in keeping operations, manpower, and financial budgets within established programs and standards
  • Conduct studies relating to organization business activity/productivity, effective utilization of funds and resources or other areas of concern
  • Develop and maintains statistical reports, cost control measures, and scheduling programs for management purposes
  • Assist the Department Manager or Division Head in conducting detailed analytical work, producing charts and graphs, and organizing relevant data in preparation of management requested reports; study and analyze such possibilities as cost reductions, improving manpower utilization and related areas
  • Serve as an Advisor in assisting Division Heads and other supervisory staff in details of operating plans, manpower/expenditure budgets, performance review, accountability reports or policy or procedural changes such as those in the accounting system, budgeting, timekeeping or employee relations
  • Perform all other special complex or confidential projects as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, Business Administration, or closely related specialty required
  • Four (4) years diversified Technology Portfolio and project management required
  • Must know how and when to use a wide variety of statistical and financial analytical tools and have a working knowledge of economics, technology and accounting
  • Knowledge of company planning, budgeting, accounting, personnel administration and cost control activities is highly desirable
  • Must know Portfolio management software (Plainsware) and have the ability to configure, setup and train
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette
