New Technology Research Manager (870-3394)

Basic Function

The New Technology Research Manager will lead, manage and direct the efforts of a team of research scientists and technicians in the New Technology Research Division for Aramco Performance Materials (APM).

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform all the supervisory responsibilities common to the Division level as established by management
  • Manage the development of new technology projects strategically aligned with APM’s commercial development goals in the areas of specialty chemicals and polymers
  • Provide hands-on leadership of a team of research scientists and technicians within the New Technology Research Division setting research priorities and establishing milestones for the team; expected to spend a fraction of time in the lab running and coordinating experiments and will be actively involved in analyzing and interpreting results and data generated within their team
  • Responsible for the implementation of the company’s IP process within their team to ensure that innovations are appropriately documented and protected
  • Oversee and participate in all Lab Specific Activities including Environmental, Health & Safety, and general laboratory management
  • Interface with collaborators at other research locations within Aramco and with academic and industrial collaborators and may participate in the management of contract research projects with third parties
  • Prepare and present research results in the form of Quarterly Summaries & Technical Reports as required by management
  • Perform other duties as required by immediate supervisor

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or other related academic field of study required; advanced degree preferred
  • Minimum ten (10) years of experience in chemistry research and development in the areas of organic, organometallic or polymer expertise preferred; experience in the innovation process and familiarity with the process of protecting inventions as IP assets such as patents and trade secrets is a plus
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined; excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies and standard business etiquette
  • Incumbent must hold the ability and a proven record in completion of research projects with aggressive timelines and varying degrees of complexity
  • Must be able to work in and lead project teams and efficiently direct the work of others
