Facilities Engineer (870-3384)

Basic Function

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems at our Ithaca, New York location. The Facilities Engineer will also be responsible for ensuring that the facility is compliant with the company’s Chemical Hygiene Plan as well as compliant with local, state, and federal regulations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe and fully functional work environment
  • Serve as point of contact for all facility issues (HVAC, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, etc.)
  • Monitor systems performance and coordinate routine maintenance schedules and emergency repairs
  • Manage facility upgrade projects and equipment installations
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations
  • Act as the local Health, Safety and Environmental Officer and point of contact for all HSE related
  • matters
  • Lead prepared training sessions for lab personnel with regard to both general lab standards as well as specific training for certain chemicals and processes
  • Oversee all hazardous material shipping and receiving
  • Coordinate construction/lab modification activities with the lab staff and contractors/building manager
  • Coordinate and oversee routine maintenance and repairs of general laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Manage hazardous waste training for lab staff and maintain hazardous waste inventory and coordinate disposal of hazardous waste
  • Maintain chemical and material inventory system in the SDS database and ensure compliance with local building and fire codes
  • Must be able to read and interpret drawings, sketches, instructions, and specifications
  • Perform other related and relevant duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or other Engineering discipline required
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in facility maintenance, EHS, or related field and familiarity with OSHA regulations required
  • Must have experience handling and overseeing hazardous materials
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined. Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Must possess good work habits, a strong work ethic, and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette; demonstrated leadership skills required
