Our Houston Research Center focuses on research and innovation in geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, production technology, drilling, and sensors development to advance the discovery and recovery of oil and gas. Located in Houston’s Energy Corridor, the center neighbors the nation’s leading petroleum engineering universities, labs, manufacturers, and service companies.

Basic Function

Incumbent will provide high level of professional expertise in their area of specialization to resolve complex problems. The incumbent independently will undertake, coordinate, and/or furnish the expertise to appraise broad scientific issues in reservoir stimulation, fracturing and geomechanics.  Incumbent will develop practical solutions for field/reservoir challenges facing production enhancement through R&D research, represent the company in industrial or technical society joint efforts as a Company technical advisor area of specialization and act as liaison with the research section of Saudi Aramco in matters relating to applied research and other cooperative technical exchanges.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carry out original investigative "short term" applied industrial research studies to resolve urgent, complex and unique technical problems for which relevant published literature is lacking
  • Provide consulting interaction with other departments and with US Companies' representatives on matters relating to area of expertise
  • Conduct information seminars and technical presentations in areas of his/her principal contact to report on studies of other areas relating to area of expertise
  • Develop ideas for potential improvements in reservoir stimulation and fracturing through R&D research
  • Evaluate challenges with field production enhancement to come up with applicable solutions by initiating and executing research project 
  • Liaise with academic section of the Kingdom in matters relating to applied research
  • Mentor and provide work direction to 0-7 lab scientists and technicians
  • Keep current on new developments in his/her field of expertise; actively participates in work of technical societies (e.g. SPE, ASTM, ACS)
  • Perform all other special complex or confidential projects as assigned

Education and Experience                                                                     

  • M.S. Degree in a Science/Engineering Discipline, Ph.D. highly desired
  • Sixteen (16) years of professional experience including at least five (5) years in R&D research in the area of reservoir stimulation and fracturing as a specialist with full responsibility for major technical work in area of specialization; however ten (10) years is highly preferred
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend accurately, clearly and concisely in English at a level required to perform the job as outlined
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient technical writing skills
  • Must be active in the area of paper publication and patent filing
  • Preferred if candidate published in significant technical journals and will have a history of active participation in technical society activities
  • Must be able to read and comprehend published, handwritten and typewritten materials, company forms, blueprints, technical manuals and computer printouts
